Teach a class

Are you a skilled tradie, needleworker or technician?

The Brunswick Tool Library offers practical workshops to teach people in the community how to use our tools safely and skillfully. The aim is to make it so that everyone feels confident using our tools to build and repair.

That’s why the Tool Library is hunting for people with practical skills who want to share their knowledge with the community.

What’s involved?

As a teacher, you will be in charge of a small class for a few hours, at a time that’s convenient to you. With the assistance of BTL volunteers, you will present to students and monitor their progress, as they practise new skills over the course of the workshop.

As a teacher, your minimum commitment will be:

  • An initial meeting with the Head of Workshops

  • Some time assisting the Tool Library to source materials

  • A single workshop, between 2 to 6 hours long

That’s it! Other volunteers will organise promotion, student signup, and payment.

What’s in it for you?

We recognise how valuable you skills are, which is why we offer payment to our workshop teachers. Your students will pay a small fee to join the class, and cover the cost of your time and materials.

Mostly, we hope that teaching others and sharing your skills will be a source of pride for you, as you help us build a community that shares resources to reduce waste and become more sustainable.

That’s why we’re looking for people with a passion for community who get pleasure out of helping others. If this sounds like you, then get in touch with Nico, our Head of Workshops, at workshops@brunswicktoollibrary.org.

An important part of the share economy is shared knowledge. Help us give people the tools they need to use the tools they borrow.
