Consumables

Some tools require consumables in order to work properly. Since these consumable items are used up during your project, we can't include them with tool borrowing. We have some consumables for sale, and donated consumables are provided for free, when available.
You can also purchase consumable items at tool retailers.

Tools that require consumables:

  • Sharpened Chainsaw Chains ($21 each, when returned after borrowing)
  • Sanding Sheets/Discs/Belts ($2 - $5 each)
  • Jigsaw and Reciprocating Saw Blades ($6 - $10 each)
  • Angle Grinder Discs ($4 - $8 each)
  • Oscillating Multitool Blades (not available from BTL)

Late fees

We like to keep our tools circulating so that everyone gets a chance to borrow what they need, when they need. If you can’t return a tool on time, just renew online or contact us ahead of the due date - we can extend your loan for up to a week, no questions asked!

  • Hand tools - $0.50 per day*
  • Power tools - $1.50 per day*

*Late fees will be charged for each day we’re open (currently Monday, Wednesday and Saturday = three charges per week).

Lost or damaged tools

Members are responsible for tools loaned out in their name. This means if a tool is lost or damaged, the member may incur the cost of repair or replacement. We do our best to repair tools free of charge, but replacement parts may incur a fee. Members must put a credit or debit card on file before borrowing, as a backup payment method.

Replacement fees vary and are based on the cost of purchasing a new tool or parts. You can find the replacement cost by searching for a tool in our catalogue.

Please take care of our tools. They belong to all of us, and without them we’re just an empty shed and some folks with DIY aspirations.
